it started with a dachshund
Long & Short is named after my beloved miniature dachshund, Lola, a tiny dog with an enormous personality and, of course, a body that is both long and short.
Over time, her hilariously disproportionate shape became symbolic of something I was seeing every day in the therapy room: people are rarely just one thing. As humans, we often hold things that feel contradictory: wanting change while craving stability, feeling strong and overwhelmed at the same time, carrying hope alongside uncertainty.
Lola’s long-but-short body became a playful reminder that incongruence isn’t something to fix, it’s something to understand, accept, and work with.
Long & Short reflects this philosophy. It’s about embracing the complexities of being human, honouring the parts of ourselves that don’t neatly align, and creating space for growth within the contradictions we carry.
Here, therapy is a place where all of you is welcome, the long parts, the short parts, and everything in between.
More than a name
The philosophy behind Long & Short extends beyond our work with clients; it also shaped the kind of practice I wanted to create.
A place where really good therapists could build independent practices while still being part of something bigger than themselves. Where clients could feel comfortable before they even sat down. Where community, unique design, and good therapy could exist side by side.
The result is a collective where therapists are supported, clients receive top-quality service, and the space itself reflects the way we believe therapy should feel.
A neighbourhood of therapists.
Think of us less like a traditional group practice and more like a neighbourhood of therapists. Independent clinicians that have our own front doors, but love living on the same block and are always around to lend a cup of sugar.
Every therapist here runs their own independent practice, brings their own perspective, and develops relationships with their clients in their own way.
What connects us is a shared commitment to thoughtful, ethical, relationship-centred care, alongside a belief that therapists do their best work when they're supported, connected, and continually learning from one another.
It's collaboration without conformity and connection without losing individuality. We know that good things grow when people have room to be themselves.
our space
Long & Short is located in a beautifully restored 1875 building in the heart of downtown Barrie, Ontario.
We believe the space you're in matters. Therapy is vulnerable enough without feeling like you're sitting under fluorescent lights in a waiting room.
We wanted to create somewhere that feels welcoming and lived in, more like a living room than a clinic. It's a space that reflects the way we hope therapy with us feels: warm, genuine, and entirely human.
The right therapist isn't the same for everyone.
Whether you're looking for your first therapist or searching for a new one, finding someone who feels like the right fit matters. Take a look through our collective and see who you connect with.
